Winter cleanup..or..putting the garden to bed for the winter

I've spent a lot of time getting the garden cleaned up and ready for winter. We wrestled the two potted Japanese Maples out of their pots. It was a brutal amount of work. The pots are pumpkin shaped so the root ball was wider than the opening at the top. Good grief. Here is the shed with one of the blue maple pots cleaned up and ready for next year. Allan drained all the hoses and I put the sprayers away. Feels good to be on it. We got our first frost today.

I heard it was a bit cold there today! Same temp as here..but you warmed up more than us. Those pumpkin shape pots are a pain!

I have learned my lesson and will NEVER plant a perennial in those pots again. Annuals. Like petunias. Marigolds....maybe fuchsias. You would have thought I would have learned my lesson having planted a bamboo in one of them a decade ago.

Yes it was cold. I walked down to the Mary Winspear to vote and when I headed back to the store, my forehead hurt. You know when you get that prairie winter cold on you face and it smarts? Like that.

It is a lot of work putting the garden to bed. Feels good when it is finished, doesn't it?

Thank you, Erin, for spending so much time on my blog yesterday. And thanks for all your lovely comments. I'm sorry you are not getting timely notices of my postings. Sometimes it takes Blogger two days to put them in the sidebar. I don't know why yesterday's post was so promptly shown. Maybe if you sign up for posts by email (under my profile) you would receive more timely notice. Anyway, I'm glad you spent time catching up. Thanks again! P. x

I think they should be fine. I put one next door and one I put a free sign on and someone picked it up yesterday. I have had those pots for about 11 years. They originally were at my store with bamboo in them. I still love them.

Hi Pam. After reading most of your blog, I see I get off pretty lightly in the fall cleanup. I have signed up for your email notices and will make a point of popping in every day regardless. I don't want to miss one more post!!! Your blog is awesome.
