I have another newbie question. I picked a crookneck squash and brought it to the kitchen. Here is a picture of it. I was pondering how to cook it and was handling it and realized it is literally as hard as a rock. I've googled it and I'm pretty sure I let it get way too old on the vine. How do you all know when your crookneck squash is ready to pick? And your favorite way to cook them? Bake?
They are so lovely, how i wish we can also grow them in the hot tropics. But i don't see them here. We have many cucurbits though, only not that variety. Maybe you should get them a few days after fertilization, that will still be young for vegetable.
ReplyDeleteThat is the same way mine looked when I picked it. It was hard also. I cut off the outer skin (my peeler couldn't handle it), cut it up, and steamed it. With a little butter it was tasty.
ReplyDeleteThank you Natalie. I thought I had a pretty autumn decoration instead of food. I prefer food!!

ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda!! We are still eating beans almost every day. It's awesome. Thank you for the Fortex bean tip.
