Alpaca poop and rhubarb...OMG what a combination.

I love rhubarb. I haven't had the best luck with it. I put straw on it and some alpaca poop and crossed my fingers for it. I was away for two weeks on vacation. When I returned and looked over the deck, this is what I saw. It looked really weird so I had to investigate.
My shoe is there for perspective. Note the poop. You can't see it too
well, but the straw is popped up about a foot.
That's better. Wow.
And with the straw pushed away. OMG!!! Rhubarb!!!

    1. I have a good sized strawberry patch too. I cannot wait to merge the flavors in jam or pie...or BOTH!!

  2. That looks like good rhubarb, Erin. A lovely pink-coloured one too. Do you know what variety it is?

    1. It is Strawberry Red Mark. Int it just so lovely. Oh by the way, I've been seeing your garden now and again in Pinterest. Always a treat. And the only one I've ever seen with your incredible crushed stone.

  5. I went onto a website with stuff for sale like Craigslist and found it there. I bought ten bags for 40.00. The bags were HUGE and made a layer about 3-4 inches deep in most of the beds. I am going to get another 10 and do my flower beds and put around the bushes, blueberries and fruit trees. I am sold on the stuff. It is magic!!

  6. Your variety is so so red Erin. Beautiful and what a fantastic surprise after your vacation. Think you got a great deal on the manure. Rhubarb is a heavy feeder!! Can't wait to see the jam or crumble posts )))

    1. I bet that s why I haven't had good luck with rhubarb. I thought I was giving it enough with the handful of my fertilizer mix. Apparantly not!! :-)
It seems to be living the manure.
Brenda, I will definately post pictures. Do you think I'll get enough this year that I can use some?

  7. Erin, have you researched Hot-beds? This is the way people used to force things like rhubarb before electric heat-mats were invented.
