What is blooming and looking wonderful in the yard right now?

In addition to the copious bulbs blooming right now, we have Forget Me Nots

Baby Artichoke

An insane number of Tulameen Raspberry shoots. Oops.

Blueberry

Blueberry walk

This angle doesn't show too many flowers. Lots of new growth though.

The corner of shame.

The windstorm wreaked havoc in the yard last week and I haven't cleaned up the mess in the back corner yet. It is VERY muddy back there and the wood chips are completely gone because of the high water table this winter. This corner was under about 6" of water for much of the winter. I am going to pile the chips very deep here from now on.

My stone Buddha with mini daffodils.

Isn't this beautifully zen. This Buddha looks very child like to me. I love his face and the calmness of it.

Plum blossoms and Peach Blossom...I love this time of year

Shiro Japanese Plum in full bloom

You can see at the base of the tree is a small plastic dish of blossoms. I've taken a few cuttings from a friends tree and rubbed them all over this tree and then set them at the base for the bees to hopefully pollinate this amazing tree. My other plum was just planted last year, so it only has a few blossoms on it.

Heat mat and grow lights set up for tomato seeding.

Black Krim 2014

I love this time of year. Once the lights and mat are set up, I feel like it's spring!!

I have really cut down on the number of tomatoes I am starting this year. I always grow WAYYYYY more than I need...or can even give away. So I have seeded four Sungold, four Black Krim and four Old German. The Black Krim seeds were taken from a massive plant bearing massive delicious tomatoes in 2014. I tried Old German last year, but they were the wrong tomatoes. Westcoast Seeds sent me a new package, so I thought I would try again. Sungolds are the most delicious cherry tomato ever and Black Krim is truly the most delicious tomato I have ever tasted. I gave my sister one of the few I got last year and she and her husband both said it was the best tomato they had ever eaten too. So there you go!!

Beamer the Garden Cat. I love our time together.

These days I leave most of the seeding flower heads in the fall, so the birds have something to eat in the winter. As I was removing all of the seed heads and stalks, cleaning up for the spring......

....this really adorable cat, Beamer the Garden Cat, followed me around all afternoon meowing and head butting me when I would bend down to clean in the garden. He likes a lot of attention. I love him and cannot resist. He gets cuddled every time.

Tete a Tete Narcissus. Aunt Helen's Daffodils. They are close, but not the same.

Back in 2013 I wrote this post with this photo of the beautiful little yellow narcissus that I brought from my Aunt Helen's place in Muskoka a year earlier. They are now in the garden and a gorgeous clump that I just cannot stop looking at. They are so bright and cheerful.

Last year I discovered the adorable little Tete a Tete Narcissus and planted some bulbs. I thought I may have found the same variety. This year I can see a major difference. The Tete a Tete's can have double and triple flowers per stem. Not always but sometimes they do. My Muskoka Narcissus, never have a multiple flower. So I will keep looking. But in the meantime I will have more and more sunny, bright yellow sunny flowers each year. I will divide the Muskoka's and keep planting new bulbs every fall. Gosh it's good to be getting in the garden again. I have missed it so much!!

More Shiro Plum blossom buds than we've ever had before!

Look at these plum blossoms about to burst open. Can you believe how many there are!! Last year I found out I needed a pollinator and that is why we've only had a small handful of yellow plums since I planted it five years ago. So I planted a Methley Plum last year and it has some blossoms so we will get the cross pollination we so desperately needed. These plums are so delicious I cannot wait to have some of these to snack on while I garden.

Methley Plum. You can't really see the buds but trust me, they are there.
