Make your own all natural anti-bacterial spray...smells clean, is safe and affordable

In the store I bottle and sell essential oils. I make my own cleaners and anti-bacterial spray. I cringe every time I see the commercial showing a chemical anti-bacterial spray in a can being sprayed all over the house and on children's toys. To make a safe, easy, effective and cheap spray take a bottle that will hold two to three cups of water. Add fifteen drops each, essential oils of Tea Tree, Oil of Oregano and Eucalyptus. Do not add the Eucalyptus Oil if you have cats. A vet told me that Eucalyptus is toxic to cats. Shake up the bottle each time you use it and use freely knowing that it is safe!

On my recent holiday in Turkey I visited a small cottage-industry style "factory" that made essential oils from wild Thyme, Lavender etc. It was fascinating to see the process - which had been handed-down from Father to Son for several generations.

Hi Mark...I wish I could have seen that. I do so much with essential oils, I would love to see how they're made.

I am glad you mentioned the toxicity to cats. My cats get into everything.

I just recently purchased a Green cleaner for my kitchen floors with Tea Oil. What a fantastic job it did...so will try more products like this now.

My big hate is this Swiffer stuff...all those disposables going in the landfill but there are lots who wouldn't agree ;-) It's convenient that's for sure.

Hi Brenda...I am always soooo happy when people switch to environmentally friendly cleaners. If you have castille soap, baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils of sweet orange, tea tree, oil of oregano and eucalyptus, you can clean anything!! I use Seventh Generation laundry and dishwasher soap. That will be the next thing I find substitutes for. I like making my own.

We use Seventh Generation as well.... and I use it liberally in the garden too. It's great with a little canola for a garden spray. I'll definitely give your household cleaner a try!

I'll sit down one day soon and figure out the recipes for all my cleaners. I tend to just wing it, on auto pilot so to speak.

Great tip...thanks for sharing it!

Hi Bridget..you are very welcome. I spend a lot of time creating all natural cleaners and skin and hair care for myself. I react to a lot of purchased products and I also find that when I do find something that will work for me, they are so expensive I start trying to recreate it, or come up with something even better. I'm in menopause and my skin is really dry, so I use some pretty heavy duty moisturizers. I will share ASAP.

Can this spray be used on fabrics? When I travel, I need something to spray on the carpets and bedding in hotel rooms that is antibacterial. Thanks!

I would. There is not a lot of essential oils in the spray so it would be okay. That said, if you are dying you will probably have your little spray bottle seized. I would mix up a tiny bottle of essential oil. Take a little empty spray bottle and add the water when you get to the hotel.
