Look over at the far right of this little thicket. See? There are red flowers? While I was working in the yard, I noticed hummingbirds visiting these electric red flowers. The morning the backhoe was coming, I dug up some of these bulbs, having no idea what they were.
I cleaned them off. Aren't they a pretty bulb?! I think they are actually called corms. I love the way they stack on top of each other. So I broke a couple stacks apart and left some. Today I planted some in each of the yards.
Of course I was really curious about what they are. I googled and found this! I believe my bulbs/flowers are Crocosmia 'Lucifer'.

I think they are too. I try to grow those here with mixed success. We are a zone or two too cold for them to be happy, but the hummingbirds do love them!
The orange version of Crocosmia "Montbretia" is very common in Cornwall, where I come from. It grows wild in all the hedgerows. A lovely plant - but can be very invasive.
Thank you for the warning Mark. I will watch it like a hawk. There were a lot of invasive plants in the yard, so I am vigilant!!
