Allow me to direct you to a very cool catchment/water barrel set up.
I am planning to add water collection to my garden priority list. I saw this post today and it looks very doable. I need to find some totes to attach this way. Here is a link to the full post.
Heh...we use a system much the same..but we have to have a small pump to push the water from the tote tank to the garden as the TT is lower than where the veg grow. Works a charm!! We never use our well and use rain water like in the photo above, or if summer is really dry, bring water from a nearby river to top the tote tank up. Lee Valley has a diverter to take the rainwater to the tote. Good idea Erin.
Hi Brenda!! Do you have a picture that shows the hook up? Is the diverter to move the water from the river to the tote? Or from the buildings into the tote? How lucky are you to have a river?!
Check out my blog Erin, http://gardeningbren.blogspot.ca/2011/06/lets-walk-in-rain.html The diverter is from the downspout to the hose to the tote. Cap goes to the river and pumps into a second tank when needed, brings it home and then tops up the one by the house. Nova Scotia is full of lakes and many have rivers that run into the sea.
