ooooooooooo, leaf mulch

Neighbor Judy came over today to tell me that I could help myself to her HUGE maple leaves. Aren't neighbors great?
Look how beautiful my neighbors tree is.
Allan came home and promptly got out the mower and started running it over the leaves.
Partially mowed
The mower was filling up very quickly so the odd leaf didn't get totally mulched, but I am just so happy to have leaf mulch.
Close up of future compost
I actually spread some on top of the straw, on top of the compost, on top of the newly planted garlic!! The rest went into compost bin two.
Doesn't he just make an awesome gardeners assistant?

I love, love leaf mulch. I have two chicken wire bins behind my cedar hedge. I don't mow mine down, (too lazy), I just throw them in one bin, the next year the other gets filled and the first is good to work with. Mmmm, chocolately goodness.

Hi Deborah...I love it that something we used to think was a big pain in the a**, is in fact an unbelievable resource. I may inform all my neighbors that I will take any unsprayed leaves. The thought of them ending up in the landfill...can't even go there.

I can't imagine my garden without leaf mulch. With all my trees, I have it whether I want it or not!

Perfect! It is so good for the grass and the soil. I use many of the leaves in my compost pile as my carbon element.

Hi SB,..I am storing them in my compost bin. There's a good chance it could just live there until next year.

You are going to be delighted with the results. I swear there's a day in the spring when I can hear the worms dragging down their little leaf litter treasures.

I am glad to see someone else takes advantage of leaves. They make great mulch in garden beds, and you can leave ground leaves right on your lawn.

I am so thrilled that there are so many of you who love compost and mulch as much as I do. What is it about taking garden refuse and turning it into black gold, that gets every gardener so excited. I have not yet had the pleasure of shoveling compost into the garden, but I'm really looking forward to the first time!!!
